"Come Follow Me:" Teaching in the Lord's Way

 "Teaching in this way is not a lecture but a conversation guided by the Spirit."

That is one of my most favorite lines from the FAQ web page about the new curriculum for youth: "Come Follow Me: Learning Resources for Youth"

Today I studied more about this new curriculum as I believe it is something I need to understand as a parent of girls who will someday be in the youth program.  I know the principles taught apply to me in teaching them right now and in all other teaching I do:

Let Us Teach

Love Us

 



I am so thankful for inspired leaders!  This curriculum is a great blessing!! Since I have now finished reading "Daughter's in My Kingdom: The History and Work of Relief Society,"  I will now use my Thursday study time to learn more about this curriculum. I know it will help me to become a better mother.

We are Living in Enemy Territory

"Church leaders’ primary purpose for simplifying their programs was to safeguard the family. Priesthood and auxiliary leaders were concerned that World War II was fragmenting homes and families. As men went to war, women had to sustain their families without immediate help from their husbands and older sons. Church leaders again encouraged mothers with children at home to find ways, if possible, to provide for the children without working outside the home full-time. These leaders encouraged Relief Society sisters to develop foundational skills of self-reliance: quilting, sewing clothing, growing gardens, and preserving and storing fruits and vegetables. They also emphasized the mother’s spiritual role in the home. Nations torn by war needed good young citizens who learned lessons of morality and uprightness from their mothers." After the Trial of my Faith

I was amazed at how the Spirit, or Holy Ghost, can help me to learn the same lesson from several different sources.  I learned it while Morning Glory read to me about Lorenzo Snow this morning, and I learned it again when I found out that today's Book of Mormon study was one of kmy favorite chapters about faith and hope: Ether 12.

I have had several miscarriages in the last few years, and the last few have been after very strong feelings about the children waiting to come to me.  It has been so confusing, and yet I have tried to continue in faith, and in hope, without understanding.  I will not give up.  I don't feel as confused now.  Even if I have  misunderstood, or misinterpreted the inspirations I think I have felt, My Heavenly Father knows the intent of my heart and he also knows the strength of my faith in Him. 

My greatest desire is for my faith to continue to grow so I will only desire to do HIs will instead of my own.

"If someone told you by digging long enough in a certain spot you would find a diamond of unmeasured wealth, do you think you would begrudge time or strength, or means spent to obtain that treasure? … If you will dig in the depths of your own hearts you will find, with the aid of the Spirit of the Lord, the pearl of great price, the testimony of the truth of this work.” (Daughters in my Kingdom, chapter 4)
